I’m in a dilemma. Should I go for kayaking tomorrow or next week? Erhm..

Ubin Recce was okay..I was kind of disappointed at myself because I knew some things could have been avoided if I had done something to prevent it. Sorry =( We took slightly more than 4 hours to complete the recce on bicycle. We actually took lesser time to recce on foot the other day but that was probably because there were on 5 of us  but now we had 23 people. And the injuries and accidents that happened along the way slowed us down. All your injured people, do take care of your wounds and not let them get infected! Got to see the reckless side of some people. Yes, Syikin? Haha. The first aid kit with QA proved to be handy. Next time we shall not underestimate such activities and should always come prepared. Lesson learned. I have finally learned how to use the gear system on bicycles. I used to wonder why the GIs happily cycled up the slopes in Ubin during B2B when I struggled to crawl up the slope. The secret is in the gears. And I’ve got to learn how to fix the chains in case mine come out again during Ubin Ex. Shall dismantle my brother’s bicycle and try to fix it. Haha he’ll just slaughter me when he finds out.

Oh by the way, my 2nd brother is leaving for NS on 12th December. My 1st brother has already gone through that passage so I guess in a way my 2nd brother should be more prepared than my 1st brother. Watched him as he packed his bag for NS.

OH YA JIANI! Now then I remember. I’m following my brother to Pulau Tekong on the 12th! (Most probably.) OHH no wonder I felt that 12th Dec was so familiar. Guess I’ll may have to give the joustling tower pioneering session a miss =/

Today was not a fruitful day for me. I had planned to do my holiday homework as it is one of my few free days left during the month of December but no, my mum just had to find something for me to do. So she got me to make pineapple tarts for Hari Raya. I still don’t see why she has to make kuih for Hari Raya Haji. So weird. So anyways, I spent some 6 to 7 hours sitting on the chair and cutting (?) the dough. Didn’t even get up at all. Eh no, I did get up once when I got pissed off at my sister and “went on strike” and refused to continue my work. Haha. But really, she pissed me off. Why?

Well, this morning after I had my shower and was looking for something to wear, I saw my blue Cedar house tee in the cupboard and reminded my sister that she could wear my green or yellow house tee but not my blue one which I’m keeping in my Cedar box for memories sake. The thing is, I took the blue house tee out to wear it during Guides camp and so it ended up in the cupboard after being washed. While making the pineapple tarts, my sister came out of the room after her shower wearing my blue house tee and I told her to immediately get out of it but she refused despite me telling her countless times. So I shut up. And just 5 minutes later, she dirtied my house tee with some chilli sauce or something and the stain could not be washed off. She just had to do it! What pissed me off was that I #1 told her this morning not to wear the blue shirt and #2 it could have been prevented if only she had changed out of the shirt when I told her to. ARGH. And because I scolded her for dirtying my house tee, I got scolded by my dad for being stingy with my sister. What crap. Of all my house tees and camp tees and OAC tees in the cupboard, she just had to make me angry and wear my blue house tee AND dirtied it. #$%^&

Erhm I’m still wondering whether or not I should go for kayaking. I’m thinking I should go tomorrow but what if something unwanted happens? Argh.

We were supposed to have Refresher Course & Mini Sea Expedition yesterday but we had some troubles at the WaterVenture kayak rental shop. Apparently we needed our 2 Star Kayaking Certificate as a proof before we can rent the kayaks but we didn’t know so none of us brought it along. Then we thought that they could check for us from their system but they only had records of members’ certification and only 9 of us were members. So in the end we cancelled the kayaking session and push it back to this Saturday. We went to Suntec Pizza Hut (Again. The inter-faith discussion place.) and had a late birthday celebration for GT. This time round we didn’t stay for long ’cause the place was getting crowded and we decided to leave the place. Spent some time outside Carrefour deciding where to go. In the end a few of them went to fetch the OCIP Laos people from the airport and the rest went to LF’s house. I decided to give that a miss and went home early, hoping that my dad wouldn’t make noise when I go Ubin on Friday and kayaking on Saturday.

Today was spent accompanying my Granny for her check-up and to replenish her stock of medicine. She usually goes to Marine Parade Polyclinic but it closed down for renovations so we brought her to Geylang East Polyclinic instead. So cool, they had a section in Geylang East Polyclinic for Marine Parade patients. So while waiting for my Granny to have her check-up I did a few Sudoku puzzles from my Sudoku book! My sister tried doing one ‘Easy level’ puzzle but couldn’t go before filling up 2 empty squares. Haha.

Okay. Time to watch my show!

Went to back to school to meet LF to discuss Ubin Ex stuff. Something embarrassing happened on my way to school. I was at the bus-stop waiting for 135 which I just missed. I was wearing my red handphone strap around my neck. Then suddenly I was wondering why does the phone strap feel very tight. So I felt around my neck trying to loosen the strap. Then I felt something. The piece of tag that is usually at the back collar of T-shirts is at the front! OH MY GOSH! Which means, I wore my shirt front to back. Not wanting to believe it, I checked my shirt (I was wearing the ‘VJC has low electricity bills..Cos Victorians are too bright’ which has a ‘V’ at the front and a ‘J’ at the back of the shirt.) And true enough, instead of seeing a ‘V’, I saw a ‘J’! I contemplated running to the Braddell Heights CC toilet to change my shirt but 135 had to appear at the junction at that exact time. I couldn’t possibly miss the bus again just to change my shirt. So I tried to maintain my cool and board the bus, hoping no one would see me. When I alighted the bus, I hurried into school and to the toilet to change my shirt. Felt so relieved after that. Luckily no one saw me on the way to school.

Discuss Ubin Ex stuff, just emailed the proposal to LF. We needed to buy aluminium sheets for a few of our checkpoint tags which went missing. Tried the hardware store in Parkway Parade which didn’t sell it. Walked around the Marine Parade food court area looking for a store but couldn’t find any. Took 31 to Bedok where LF said maybe got sell but ended up getting disappointed. My mum said the hardware store near my house sells it. So we went home hoping that it does. And sure it does!! =D Bought 6 metal tags for $3. Not bad lah, at least the uncle didn’t extort money from me! Went home with a peace of mind =D

Read LH’s email. CAPSIZE! OMG. I thought we wouldn’t have to capsize anymore. Why why why? Just learn our strokes and manouvering the kayak can la. GG. I just hope my dad wouldn’t make so much noise when I leave the house for Kallang tomorrow morning.

He just came into the room and talked to me.

Dad: When does school reopens?

Me: Next year.

Dad: Then what about the new kids (referring to the J1s ‘09 batch)?

Me: Next year.

Dad: You don’t anyhow go and take care of the new kids okay.

Me: (Gives a silent hmm)

He doesn’t know that I am an OGL. Shrugs.

Oh by the way, I couldn’t get to watch Avatar on TV last night =( Bro made me watch it from the CD and I gave in to temptation and watched 4 more episodes when I should only be watching that particular episode that airs last night. Sigh.

Just emailed Fong the Ubin Ex proposal. Actually it’s not really a proposal, just a brief outline of it, put together after our recce yesterday. Just the skeleton of the proposal. Details and such have yet to be discussed. Meeting him this coming Wednesday to discuss about the Ubin Ex, do up our first proposal and send it to the DI. I have to make up for all the times I made Fong do all the proposals when my computer’s Microsoft Word got screwed up. Haha sorry luh. But I have to do my fair share of work too since he will be pretty busy with DARE. Fair and square! But I kind of like doing proposals because I am a details person so I like looking at details. Ask the ‘07 guides and you’ll know what I’m talking about. But not loads and loads of proposals! Just enough to keep me occupied for a few hours a day, that I like. Haha. Sounds crazy huh.

My December will be pretty much packed. Just hope my dad will not nag at me!

I’m thinking whether I can skip Mini Sea Expedition because according to my dad, the last day of 2Star Kayaking was the last day I’ll ever go kayaking again so maybe if I were to skip mini sea ex I can tell him that I have to go for refresher course and sea expedition because refresher course is to prepare us for it and to ensure that we remember our skills before we embark on the sea expedition. Makes sense to him I guess. Just hope he wouldn’t be unreasonable. So I guess I’ll have to buck up, be nicer to him, do my homework and revision etc. And not make him find any faults with me.

Speaking of which, time to let my bro use the com and time for me to do some work! Haven’t been following my study time-table ever since I was sick a few days ago.

Oh and I wonder where my 2Star cert went to..

Watched HSM 3 last Friday with Jiani and Pamela. Before that, we had PW meeting at Zhiyang’s house which is in some ulu place in Kallang which is a 10 – 15 minutes walk from the MRT station. After the meeting, I left with Joanne and Kenny. After what felt like ages, we finally reached Kallang MRT Station when I realised oops I left my wallet at Zhiyang’s house. @#$%^ So I walked back to his house to get my wallet and then back to the MRT Station. Wasted 40minutes or so of my time just walking to and from his house. Sigh. Next time I should wear those springy, rubbery, plasticy thing that primary school kids use to attach their wallets to the shirts or shorts.

Met up with Jiani and Pamela at Dhoby Ghaut. While waiting for them, I met up a while with Uma who was also watching HSM 3 with her NJ friends at PS GV. Sent her off to the lift lobby (You owe me one) and walked back to the bus-stop to wait for Jiani and Pamela. Met Eugenia who was also going to watch HSM 3 at Cathay. As we were walking to Cathay, we met Margaret who was also going to watch HSM 3. So many people watching HSM 3! Anyways, for a $6 movie, it was worth it =) I don’t quite like the songs but with the dance moves, it was okay. It’s the kind of song that I wouldn’t be bothered to upload into my mp3/phone but don’t mind watching the video for the sake of watching it. Wonder if I’m making any sense here. Haha. Anyways, I love 2 particular song+dance. The first being the part where Troy and Chad danced in the scrapyard! The second being their very first rehearsal for the play! Can’t remember the title of the second song though. Couldn’t stay for dinner with Jiani and Sandra (who came after the dinner). Pamela had to leave too ’cause it was her dad’s birthday.

Went for the Salomon X-Trail Run yesterday!! Nope, I didn’t run. I volunteered for it =) Hitched a ride on JN’s dad’s car. Thank you uncle! Reached Tampines Mountain Bike Trail at around 4:30am, thinking that we were the earliest but there others were already there!! Half of those who slept over at SH’s house were already there. SH’s dad fetched them there in 2 “shifts”. All of them slept over at his house except for me, JN, BW, GT, WT, LF, HH, PO. If you do your calculations, 23 – 8 = 15 | 15 / 2 = 7.5 So about 7 people squeezed into SH’s dad’s car at one time. So squeezy!

Anyways, we registered, got our super nice green Salomon shirt and shoe bag, free hashbrown and mcmuffin for breakfast and waited for the briefing. Got sorted into Sector 1 with JN, BW, XY and TB. Sector 1 was in-charge of the first 2km or so of the trail. Got despatched off to our respective locations. Poor me got despatched off at a random, ulu, mosquito infested corner of the forest. My gosh. Even before the run started, I already had 25 mosquito bites. Super itchy!! But after the flag-off, the runners running past kind of occupied my mind so I didn’t really think much of the itch. It’s all in the mind baby! Saw Mr Goh, Jia Jian and Mrs Woo. Apparently the rest of them saw Mr Tay but maybe ’cause he was the first few during the first wave, I didn’t manage to spot him. I think he got 5th or 6th for the Men’s category! IMBA!! We met so many people. Oh and we met Hilary too! Coolios. After the last man passed me, I walked back to the hut but met the official halfway so I joined him to fetch the rest and we walked the trail to clear the road marks, barricades and stuff. I swear XY has something against me! Haha. Went back to the hut, sat around with the rest. Got free tea break! OCK curry puff + fish nugget + prawn nugget + sotong nugget. Gave away my sotong nugget to someone. Can’t remember who it was. BW, I think. AND FRUIT TARTS! OMG. I love fruit tarts =) 22-ed home with JX, SK and MS.

Spent the whole of yesterday watching tv. Watched National Treasure again. Wahh, I love that show! It’s so cool~ I won’t mind watching it over and over and over again =D

Had OP rehearsal this morning. We were the last group to present again. Not surprising. I felt more comfortable presenting today, probably because there was only Mrs Liew left in the room. Haha. Q&A was quite okay. I didn’t quite understand her question so after I gave her my answer, I asked if that answered her question. She replied, “If you think it did then it’s okay.” -.- So I stood there and gave her the huh look and she just laughed. So in the end I sat down. Haha.

Took 135 home. Was listening to the songs on my phone and fell asleep. Don’t know why, I suddenly woke up when I was reaching my bus-stop. I guess my internal clock has already gotten used to it and will wake me up when the times come. But I cannot depend on it too much. Haha. Anyways, I was in my semi-conscious state when I thought I saw someone familiar across the street. It was dear Vishalini with her NY friends. Woke me up and I called her to tell her that I saw her. Haha. After 8 months of schooling near my house, I have never once bumped into her in my neighbourhood.

Friday, 241008: Old Clothes & Newspaper Collection

My class had our OP workshop in the morning. It ended at about 2pm, so TB and I went to Bedok on our own. Had a ‘nice’ time walking from Blk 534 to Blk 526 without a map in hand or signboards in view. Found Blk 526 but spent a whole 15mins or so downstairs ’cause WT did not pick up her phone. I finally gave up waiting and asked SK for YY’s number and thankfully, YY picked up my call. Joined them for Blk 526 and Blk 523. Just after we completed 523, I got a call from AD who told me to accompany her at Blk 544 ’cause she was all alone. Nice me walked from India to Chinatown (inside joke, haha). In the amount of time I took to walk from Blk 523 to Blk 544, AD actually #1 completed half a block, #2 on her own, #3 without elevator. Now you can imagine how far I walked. Blk 544 turned out to be those rental studio apartments for the aged and the poor. AD learned that I could not speak Malay, haha. Really!

After that, we did a few other blocks which I can’t quite remember. Blk 546, something, and something. There was this one particular block which mad me feel so demoralised. You see, the blocks in those area are the kinds that have a lot of columns and staircases. Erhm, how do I explain it? They are not the kind with common corridors and lifts that stop at every floor. So in order to ensure that every household gets a flyer, it’s just pure confusion. So, AD and I were walking to that particular block which happened to be our last one. That made me happy. I was secretly hoping for a straight block and was disappointed when I saw 2 staircases. Or so I thought. Then I saw another staircase. “Alamak Adeline, got 3 staircases.” We walked a few steps, I looked again and saw 4 staircases. “What the..” Took another look and saw 5! And then 6! We were like, ”WHAT?!” Well, in the end, there were 7 staircases -.- By the time we were done with our blocks, it was way past 7pm. Had a long bus ride home.
 

Sunday, 261008: Old Clothes & Newspaper Collection

Boarded 24 from my house. MS boarded the same bus from the busstop near her house. Reached the busstop, went down into the MRT station to top up MS’ ezlink card and met SH on our way down. As usual, he and his out-of-the-bed look. Met WI and SH at the bus berth and waited for the rest.

AD, FT, JN, HH, KA, KH, MS, PO, SH, SK, ST, WI, XY (did I miss out anyone’s name?)

Grouped up with the Karung Guni I/Cs aka AD & SK. Spent about 2hours doing Blk 523. After which the I/Cs left me ALONE while they bought lunch for us. So I sat at the void deck waiting for the karung guni man and his lorry to arrive. Got bored after a while and entertained myself with reading the magazines that were given to us. Quite fun. I read a magazine on World Vision. Makes me want to adopt a kid! Or fund for his daily needs =) Tumpang Ms Teoh and Karung Guni Man to WI & MS’ block to collect their stuff. Got off to help them with their next block while waiting for AD & SK to finish delivering the lunch. Ate my lunch at the void deck. Bet I looked like some vagrant. Went back to Blk 525, Blk 524 and Mlk 525. Again, I got left alone at the last block when AD & SK left to help PO and friends (haha) at Blk 54_. Was entertained by some kids who later got very annoying. Tumpang the lorry again to JN’s block. And again, I got left but this time I had JN to accompany me. We sat there in the carpark with a whole pile of clothes, waiting for the karung guni man’s wife to pick up the clothes. Waited for 30mins plus. Everyone came back to our block where we weighed everything and wrapped up the old clothes collection. SH & WI (GAYY) tumpang the karung guni man back to Defu Lane while the rest went back to Bedok Interchange. Dad fetched me from there.

Thursday, 161008: Distribution of Flyers

TB, ST, JN & I was assigned to distribute the flyers to the units in blocks 4, 5, 32, 34 and 35. I found it a little hard to distribute the flyers and at the same time, tell to residents about our old clothes and newspaper collection as most of the residents were aged Chinese who spoke Mandrin or dialect. As a result, I had to stick to JN and she did most of the talking while I knocked the door, pressed the doorbell etc. Finally felt how it is like to go door-to-door and the feeling of rejection. At the end of the day, my knuckles were red and sore =( The guys group (JX, SH, KA, YO ?) helped us with block 32, thank you so much guys.

Friday, 171008: Old Clothes & Newspaper Collection Day 1

Due to competition from various other sources such as SULO, karung guni man and a 90-year old auntie who collects newspapers and clothes on Saturday, we decided to minimise our losses having the collection not just on Saturday but on Friday too. Grouped up with TB, ST and KA. ST left halfway and YY joined us after that. We were assigned to blocks 7 and 8 but we went on to collect from blocks 27 and 28 as we were quick and efficient =) I felt that I put in more effort for the collection, probably because I didn’t have to talk much with the residents, just ask them whether or not they have any old clothes and newspapers. Paired up with ST and one half of the block while TB and KA did the other half. Blocks 27 and 28 were point blocks so ST/YY and I did the bottom half while the guys did the top half. Block 28 is the ultimate! We collected 300kg of newspapers and 50kg of clothes from just that block. That is equivalent to half of what we collected for the whole day! IMBA!! It was super fun, probably also because the residents of the point block could speak and understand English/Singlish better than the elderly. It was fun helping the karung guni man record down the readings from the weighing scale and calculating the readings! If all else fail, I will be a baker. If that fails, I will be a karung guni woman! Hehs. Nice me saved us the trouble of walking all the way back to school and hitched a ride on the karung guni man’s lorry. FUN! Although I’ve got to admit, we looked like some lost JC students who were desperate for transportation that we resorted to hitching a ride at the back of a lorry full of newspapers, old clothes and God-knows-what. Went back to school and helped the uncle calculate our earnings. We managed to raise $500 from today’s collection. It was actually $475.98 to be exact but we bargained with the uncle and he topped up to $500 for us! =) A few snapshots on the lorry: 

Saturday, 181008: Old Clothes & Newspaper Collection Day 2

After the University Panel Talk, I stayed on to help with the collection (Although I wasn’t needed to. I’m nice!) ’cause Aroha meeting was cancelled. Grouped up with WI and ST and was assigned to blocks 15, 16 and 17. MS joined us at block 16. Experienced a part of the ugly side of Singaporeans =/ Don’t let that bring us down yeah! Our collection from block 15 was woah! It took us quite some time to load them onto the lorry. Had a lunch break before moving on to block 16. Mr Seet bought lunch for us. The cheena people got chicken rice while I had some japalung rice with chicken (which costs me a hefty $4.80) and I ate only a few mouthfuls of it. But shan’t complain ’cause Mr Seet had gone through the trouble to buy the food for us. Thank you Mr Seet! Ms Ng helped us too! She accompanied the karung guni men around and helped us load the newspapers and clothes onto the lorry. Block 16 turnout was slightly lesser than Block 15 but equally as fun! I left after Block 16 ’cause my dad was supposedly supposed to bring me to look for a new handphone but when I reached home, he was making botok-botok =( Sad. Got to stick with my brother’s NS phone for quite some time. Anyways, we managed to raise $520 from today’s collection.

Total money raised from Old Clothes and Newspaper Collection @ Marine Parade = $500 + $520 = $1020 =D

New Balance – The REAL Run 2008

Women’s Junior 15km: 3102

The day started with me waking up to my alarm ringing at 4am, only to switch it off and continue sleeping. Thank God my mum woke me up at 4:30am. Ate a granola bar for breakfast. Didn’t want to eat too much in case my breakfast comes out halfway through running. Dad sent me to Ang Mo Kio Interchange where I took a bus service to Changi Exhibition Centre. And I reached super early! 6:05am! Sat down at a cosy little corner and stoned. JN & WI came. Folllowed by KA, QA, YO, TB and glamorously late, ST. Maybe I was nervous, ’cause I went to the toilet THREE times! Tied the race chip to my shoe, pinned on my race bib, deposited my bag at the baggage deposit booth and went out under the scorching sun to wait for the commencement of the race.

The race started at 7:42am, acccording to my watch but we only managed to pass the start line 3 minutes later due to the crowd. Jogged with JN. Thank you JIANI for pacing and running with me =) The first 4km off-track run was fine. Kept up with JN but could feel myself lagging behind the crowd. Seeing other runners walking is very discouraging ’cause it makes me feel like stopping and walking. After the 4km, it started to get depressing. Once we got onto the runway, we saw the 10km runners running in the opposite direction, towards the finish line. Even more depressing when we see the 10km runners turning right after the 5km halfway point while we have to continue to the left for the extra 5km on top of the 10km. The initial part of the 5km extension was by far the lowest point of the whole race. I practically walked 1.5 – 2.0 km of that section. Felt more motivated to jog back after the 9km mark but walked a little in between ’cause my calves started to ache.

Finally reached the point where the 10km runners and the 15km runners diverge. My joy didn’t last long when I realised that there’s still the beach section of the race. I told myself that I will never run on sand. Kind of sad, now that I think about it. ‘Cause maybe if I had told myself otherwise, I wouldn’t have walked the entire 0.5km stretch of beach. After the beach, the run was smoother! Upon seeing the 14km mark, we told each other to run the whole 1km back. I told myself, “What’s 1km compared to the 14km that you have ran?” but no no, my body refused to go on and I ended up walking a little. Saw the finish line and started to jog back. Felt motivated seeing the rest of the guys at the finish line cheering me on. Thank you guys! =)

Now that I think about it, 15km was pretty fine for someone who barely had time to train. So maybe, in the future when I am better prepared, I will be able to run 10km races, or even 15km races in a shorter time. Yeah, I’ll train for that!

Congrats to JN for winning the 4th place Lucky Draw with her lucky number of 3101, just one before mine (3102) and one after ST’s (3100) who both wanted to win the Lucky Draw but in the end JN won instead haha.

THANK GOD FOR GIVING ME THE STRENGTH TO KEEP ON RUNNING AND THE DETERMINATION TO PASS THE FINISH LINE. AMIN.

REAL Runners!

I’m going to spare myself the frustration and not blog about PW. Think of happy thoughts =D

Happy Thought No.1: PT made me happy. It must be the endorphine. Ran 2.4km around the school followed by 2 sets of stairs-climbing and conditioning. 2.4 was pretty fine. Jogged at a rather comfortable pace. Time to buck up and pick up pace and REACH FOR MY LIMITS! Stairs-climbed and conditioned with JN, HH, MS and WT. Quite slack lah. But at the last set, I tried to make up for my slacked first set so I put in more effort to do conditioning and climb stairs. No muscle ache so far. Got to prepare myself for the REAL run.

Happy Thought No.2: “Celebrated” Ms Teoh’s birthday! Actually I didn’t know about it. It just so happened that the rest were walking towards the PE dept/grandstand when I went back to the ODAC room after PW so I kaypoh-kaypoh went to ask them what was happening. Welfare I/C bought cheesecake! How sinful~ Had a few bites of the cake. Yeah, I love cheesecake <3

Happy Thought No.3: According to the weighing scale in my brother’s bedroom, I lost 1kg! Hehe nothing much but still, one kilogram!! BUT the weighing scale is not that accurate so I should not believe it so much. I have been wanting to get myself a digital weighing scale but haven’t found a nice and cheap one. Tell me if you know where I can get it yeah.

Happy Thought No.4: I’m going to run 15km this coming Sunday and boy am I excited for it!!

Correction: Happy Thought No.4 was an attempt on my part to adopt a positive attitude towards the 15km run as as you guys can see, I’M SCARED! Not scared in the literal meaning, but rather I just don’t know what to expect of it!  It will be my very first race and it will determine if I will ever take part in a race ever again =/ Hope that it will be fine. Dear God, give me strength and determination!

I want to go on a shopping spree. But I’m broke =/ Actually, I’m not broke. I just want to save money $_$
